Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Dimensioning

Computer Aided Design helps you visualize your project.  With our CAD service you’ll be better able to prevent problems and make changes to the design before cutting or fabricating.  CAD dimensioning shows you all the important dimensional and angular relationships.  We can help from simple 2D layout and dimensioning to 3D rendering (including dimensioning details).  All the information you need to cut, assemble and install your idea will be provided.

For contractors, CAD drawings provide details to your construction design to help locate key anchoring points and part relationships.  Basic 2D drawings help visually communicate your idea to others.  Show your customer your idea ahead of time (and get approval) saving costly rebuilds and mistakes.  Use the drawings to communicate with the permit office.  Simple structural designs can be used as an overview for meetings and approvals.  When your ready to build use the detailed drawings to complete your construction project.  We’ll compile a parts list so you can show up at the job site ready to install.

For homeowners, you can use our design services to make sure your contractor knows what you want.  Contractors and construction companies want to give you what you want.  It’s often very difficult to communicate construction/structural design with words alone. For example, how would you describe the drawings below using only words?  Avoid miscommunication by painting a picture.

Patent Drawings aka Patent Artwork - if you plan on filing for a Utility Patent or Design Patent you will be required to submit a drawing of your idea.  Your patent drawings (known as Patent Artwork) must clearly show the elements you describe in the abstract, disclosure and claims portions of your application.  CAD drawings can present your idea from several angles.  You can use the drawings to progressively refine your idea until it’s ready for submittal.  We, of course, will not discuss your idea with anyone but you (or your patent attorney).

2D Drawings

2D drawings show dimensioning and layouts with details and close-ups.  Plan your anchor points beforehand to ensure proper bracing is in place.  Modify the design before cutting material.  As the saying goes, proper planning prevents poor performance.

If your project can be communicated and constructed with a couple of 2D drawings (ex front and side), then 2D may be your best solution.  Visualize your project in your head.  Rotate it around in you mind’s eye (pun intended) and think about the critical angles you have to see it from in order to complete it.  What measurements do you need?  At what angle do the parts fit together?  If you need to see it from 3 different angles (ex. front, side, and top) then 3D drawings is probably your best solution.  Three dimensional drawing provide the depth necessary for the whole picture.  The 3D graphics demonstrate the effectiveness of depth in drafting.  Drafting these relatively simply objects with only two dimensional drafting techniques would require images at multiple angles to communicate the same information shown here.

3D Drawings

3D drawings, called 3D rendering, allows you to see exactly what your project will look like when finished.  3D drawings even let you select the particular material your project will use.  There are literally hundreds of choices like polished chrome, brushed brass, stainless steel, regular steel, even marble and granite. We can even color code parts on your drawings to help contrast locations and relationships with one another.  3D designing gives you the full picture from every angle.  We’ll work closely with you to make sure it meets your aesthetic and functional requirements.

Color coding parts in a 3D Rendering often presents better contrast for part mating relationships

3D drawings helps to understand how all the parts work together in a structural design

Rendering in 3D shows angular relationships for all parts whether foreground or background.
